The plot is quick moving and has a large focus on class disparity, and how the rich manipulate the world to stay in power and make money off the work of people with less money or power. Plus Robin is working to bring about change so that the voices of all of the residents of Kingston can be heard and not just the rich. People are freezing in the winter storms which are stronger than ever before and dying in fires which look like they might not be accidents. Of course no one wants to use souls and so the king has put forward a reward to anyone who can bring back the lights and heat to Kingston. The lack of witches also means no more aether since they were the only ones who could collect souls and move them through the pipes. Zelinda (Khe/Ker) and Robin were in love but one night on her way home Zelinda was ambushed by witchtakers and Robin hasn’t seen them since. When Robin goes on one of the trips to bring back witches from an asylum she finds the love of her life, who she thought had died in the asylum.

There is still a lot of work to do, all of the witches must be freed from the asylums and reunited with the families they were stolen from. Robin has succeeded in making being a witch legal a goal The Circle thought would take decades. If you haven’t read it yet Witchmark is the first in the series and I highly recommend it.Ĭontent Warning: Death, violence, forced pregnancies/breeding, police brutality, abusive parents/family. Warning: Soulstar is the third in the Kingston Cycle and this review has some spoilers for the first two books.
